About the Treatment

What Does It Involve?

Benign lesion removal with the CO₂ laser is a medical procedure that allows superficial skin lesions to be removed precisely and in a controlled manner without the need for surgery or sutures. At our centre we perform it with Alma Hybrid, a platform that goes a step beyond the conventional CO₂. The CO₂ laser vaporises the lesion layer by layer with great precision, sparing the surrounding healthy tissue, minimising bleeding and reducing the risk of scarring. In addition, the platform incorporates the non-ablative 1570 nm laser, which allows the perilesional skin to be treated by stimulating collagen at depth to encourage cleaner, more uniform healing. This technology delivers better results with less trauma, a shorter recovery time and a notably lower risk of adverse effects, especially post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation —the most frequent complication of conventional ablative lasers, particularly in higher skin phototypes. The treatment can address warts, soft fibromas (skin tags), seborrhoeic keratoses, cherry angiomas, syringomas, xanthelasmas, milia cysts and other superficial skin lesions, on the face, neck, décolletage, armpits, trunk and other locations.

What Is the Treatment Like?

Every lesion requires a prior medical assessment to confirm its benign nature. No lesion is treated without this step: if there is the slightest diagnostic doubt, it is referred for study before any procedure is carried out. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, topical or local anaesthesia is applied according to the lesion and the area. The CO₂ laser vaporises the lesion with millimetric precision, adjusting the depth to the type and thickness of each one. The session lasts approximately 30 minutes. It is an outpatient procedure that is comfortable, well tolerated and delivers immediate results.

Treatment benefits

  • Removes the lesion precisely and in a controlled manner.
  • Spares the surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Minimal bleeding during the procedure.
  • Lower risk of scarring than other techniques.
  • No need for surgery or sutures.
  • Immediate results, visible from the very first day.
  • Outpatient procedure that is quick and well tolerated.
  • Lower risk of adverse effects, such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Always preceded by a diagnostic medical assessment.

Results & Recovery

After the procedure, a small scab forms on the treated area, which falls off naturally within one to two weeks depending on the location and size of the lesion. It is common to have redness and local inflammation in the first few days. Once the scab has fallen off, the skin appears pink and gradually normalises over the following weeks. Strict sun protection throughout the whole process is essential to minimise the risk of residual pigmentation. Most lesions resolve in a single session, although some may require a subsequent touch-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which lesions can be treated?

Warts, soft fibromas (skin tags), seborrhoeic keratoses, cherry angiomas, syringomas, xanthelasmas, milia cysts and other superficial benign skin lesions.

Is a prior assessment necessary?

Yes, always. No lesion is treated without a medical assessment that confirms its benign nature. If there is any diagnostic doubt, the lesion is referred for dermatological study before considering the laser.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is performed with topical or local anaesthesia according to the lesion and the area, so it is very well tolerated. You may feel a slight sensation of warmth or stinging during the application.

Does it leave a scar?

The CO₂ laser allows millimetric control of the depth, which minimises the risk of scarring compared to other techniques. Even so, any removal of a skin lesion leaves a residual mark that usually fades over time, and the final result depends on the location and the skin type of each patient.

How long does the area take to heal?

The scab usually falls off within one or two weeks. The skin is left pink and gradually normalises over the following weeks.

Can the lesion come back?

Some lesions, such as warts of viral origin, can recur. Others, such as soft fibromas or seborrhoeic keratoses, do not reappear at the treated spot, although new lesions may arise in other locations due to individual predisposition.

What if I have several lesions?

It is possible to treat several lesions in a single session. In that case, a personalised quote is prepared during the assessment, based on the number, size and location of each one.

Is sun protection necessary afterwards?

Yes, it is essential. Strict sun protection throughout the entire healing process significantly reduces the risk of residual pigmentation in the treated area.
