What is subcision?

Subcision is a minimally invasive medical technique that targets the structural cause of cellulite: the fibrous bands that pull the skin downward and create dimples. Using a specific micro-needle the doctor releases each band, smoothing the area from the anatomy itself rather than from the surface only. It is mainly indicated for moderate to severe cellulite on the glutes and back of the thighs.

What does the session look like?

The session begins by marking each dimple with the patient standing, to identify the actual fibrous traction. We apply local anaesthesia and introduce the micro-needle into a controlled subcutaneous plane, releasing each band with fine movements. The procedure takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on the area and the number of dimples. After subcision we recommend compression and, in many cases, complementary radiofrequency or INDIBA sessions to enhance the remodelling.

Recovery and care

After the session you can expect tenderness, bruising and swelling for 1 to 3 weeks, all controlled and expected. Wear the compression garment, avoid intense physical activity for the first 7 days and sleep on your back or side for the first nights. The dimples start to flatten in the following weeks; the result settles between months 2 and 3 once the tissue completes the remodelling.

Is subcision painful?

It is performed with local anaesthesia at every point treated, so discomfort during the session is minimal. The following days you may have tenderness and some bruising, all manageable.

How many sessions do I need?

Many patients see significant improvement after a single session. In severe cellulite a second intervention may be scheduled from month 3 onward to address residual areas.

Can the cellulite come back?

The result is long-lasting because subcision acts on the specific fibrous band. Sudden weight changes or extreme sedentary lifestyle can trigger new dimples, which can be retreated locally.

Who is not a candidate?

Patients with coagulation disorders, active infection in the area, pregnancy or lactation, and very mild cellulite without deep dimples are not candidates. The indication is always confirmed in medical consultation.
