Hyperpigmentation

About the Treatment

Hyperpigmentation

Skin pigmentation reflects melanin, which rises with sun, hormonal change (oral contraceptives, pregnancy), inflammation or ageing. Depending on the origin you may see sun spots, melasma, post-inflammatory marks or uneven tone. Without a precise diagnosis the wrong treatment can make it worse.

Who does it affect?

It mostly affects women aged 30 to 55 and men with intense sun exposure or Mediterranean skin. It is common after pregnancies, summers without proper SPF, or in sensitive skin that has gone through inflammation.

Help & Support

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do dark spots appear on the skin?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when melanin accumulates excessively in localized areas. The most common causes are chronic sun exposure, hormonal changes, post-acne inflammation, aging, and genetic predisposition. It can also result from repeated irritation or reactions to certain products. At Santé, we evaluate the type of spot to offer the most effective protocol.

What treatment does Santé use for hyperpigmentation spots?

We combine rejuvenating laser, which fragments accumulated melanin, with high-performance medical depigmenting agents following personalized assessment. The laser acts selectively on the spot, while depigmenting agents reinforce results and prevent recurrence. The protocol is tailored to the type, depth, and location of each spot.

How many sessions do I need and when will I see results?

Generally, 2–4 laser sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart are required. First visible results appear 2–3 weeks after the initial session, with gradual progression. Depigmenting agents are applied at home for 4–8 weeks. Final results consolidate within 2–3 months. Duration depends on the intensity and age of the hyperpigmentation.

Does the treatment hurt and do I need to avoid facial hair or makeup?

The laser produces a controllable heat sensation with no significant pain. There is no major downtime: skin may redden slightly for the first few hours. You can apply makeup the next day and resume normal activities immediately. Strict sun protection (SPF 50+) is essential throughout treatment to prevent spot reactivation.
