What is medical depigmenting therapy?

These are doctor-prescribed topical formulas combining actives such as hydroquinone, azelaic acid, retinoids, tranexamic acid, niacinamide or kojic acid, calibrated to your spot type, phototype and skin sensitivity. They treat melasma, sun spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation at the source by regulating melanocyte activity and supporting skin renewal. As a medical regimen, concentration and duration are controlled in consultation to avoid irritation or rebound.

What does the protocol look like?

After a Wood's-lamp assessment and dermoscopy we identify the type of pigmentation (epidermal, dermal or mixed) and design a specific routine with prescription-strength products. The plan combines a continuous-use depigmenting agent and, when needed, short cycles of more potent actives. It is always paired with strict sun protection and the option to amplify the result with peelings or laser, integrated into a single medical protocol.

Care during the regimen

Treatment success depends as much on the formula as on your habits. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen every day and reapply mid-afternoon if you are exposed to sunlight. Follow the order and frequency we indicate: many formulas are potent and misuse can irritate the skin. Maintain a hydrating routine and avoid additional exfoliating actives without consulting us first.

How long until I see results?

Initial changes are usually seen between weeks 6 and 8 of consistent use. Results consolidate around months 4-6, when the regimen is downshifted to a softer maintenance protocol.

Can the spots come back?

Yes, especially melasma, which has a strong hormonal and solar component. That is why sun protection and maintenance cycles are an essential part of the protocol.

Can I combine it with laser or peelings?

Yes, this is in fact the most common approach for stubborn pigmentation. The doctor decides when to introduce laser or peelings to avoid stacking stimuli and protect the skin.

Is it safe during pregnancy?

Some actives like retinoids or hydroquinone are not recommended during pregnancy. In those cases we design a safe regimen with compatible actives until the moment is right.
