Radiant skin from within: glutathione, vitamin C and your event

Intravenous glutathione and vitamin C can support skin radiance before a wedding or event. We explain realistic timelines, what to expect and what cannot be promised.

Glutathione and vitamin C are two antioxidants that, administered intravenously under medical supervision, can support the radiance and quality of your skin from within. The key is to start early — it is usual to plan between three and six months before the wedding or event — and to combine internal support with facial treatments suited to your skin. Results vary from person to person, and no serious medical protocol promises a guaranteed change for a specific date.

What do glutathione and vitamin C do in your skin?

Glutathione is a tripeptide (glutamate, cysteine and glycine) that acts as the body's main intracellular antioxidant. Its role is to neutralize free radicals and regenerate other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E. Its levels decline with age, sun exposure, tobacco and insufficient rest.

Vitamin C, for its part, is an essential cofactor in collagen synthesis. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) authorizes the claim that "vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin", set out in Regulation (EU) No 432/2012. It is one of the few skin-related claims with European regulatory backing.

Honesty matters here: the evidence on intravenous glutathione as a depigmenting agent is limited and heterogeneous. That is why, in serious aesthetic medicine, it is approached as overall antioxidant support, never as a skin-lightening treatment.

Why intravenous and not capsules?

Oral absorption of vitamin C becomes saturated: beyond a certain dose, the intestine stops absorbing more and the excess is eliminated. The intravenous route bypasses that limit and reaches plasma concentrations that the oral route cannot achieve. Oral glutathione, moreover, is largely degraded during digestion.

An IV vitamin session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes and always begins with a medical assessment. You sit in a quiet room, a peripheral venous line is placed and the infusion runs while you rest; when you leave, you resume your day as normal. At Santé, glutathione is administered within the Premium Drip — together with vitamin C, B complex, biotin and magnesium — or in a personalized drip, never as a standalone treatment.

When should you start before the wedding or event?

Collagen takes weeks to remodel and the skin needs room to respond. The week before is not the time to try new treatments: it is the time to maintain. This is the indicative timeline we usually review in consultation:

TimingGoalProtocol examples
6–3 months beforeAntioxidant base and skin qualityMedical assessment; Premium Drip (€250/session); facial mesotherapy (€200)
2–1 months beforeTexture and evennessHollywood peeling (€150); Aquapure cleansing (€120); microneedling (€150)
2–1 weeks beforeFreshness and a rested appearanceFacial drainage (€80); Kobido massage (€100); final drip at medical discretion
Event weekMaintain, don't try new thingsHydration, sleep and sun protection; no new treatments

These dates are indicative: your doctor adjusts them according to your skin, your calendar and how you respond to each session. The months leading up to a wedding often add stress and fewer hours of sleep, two factors that deplete your antioxidant reserves; that is why the internal plan makes sense. The two-week follow-up review is included at no extra cost.

What can you expect and what cannot be promised?

What is reasonable: support for radiance, hydration and a rested appearance over the course of weeks, assessed at the two-week review. What influences the result most is not only the drip: it is sleep, sun, tobacco and the stress of the preceding months. Two people on the same protocol can respond differently, and that is normal.

What cannot be promised: lightening the skin by several shades, erasing dark spots or guaranteeing a result for a specific day. If your concern is dark spots or melasma, there are specific protocols — such as the Q-Switched laser or intense pulsed light — that are assessed separately in consultation.

Each IV vitamin session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes and always begins with a medical assessment. This is Santé's standard protocol, carried out by registered doctors.

Key points

  • Glutathione and vitamin C act as antioxidants; vitamin C also contributes to normal collagen formation, a claim authorized by the EFSA.
  • The intravenous route overcomes the limits of oral absorption; each session lasts 30–60 minutes and requires a prior medical assessment.
  • Ideally, plan between three and six months before the event and do not start new treatments in the final week.
  • IV glutathione is offered as antioxidant support, not as a depigmenting agent: the evidence for skin lightening is limited.
  • Results vary; the two-week follow-up allows the plan to be adjusted with medical judgment.

How Santé Clinics approaches it

At Santé, every IV protocol begins with a medical assessment — the medical consultation costs €50 and the aesthetic consultation is free — and is supervised by a team of registered doctors. The IV therapy area is led by Dr. Alejandro Infante, with the Premium Drip (€250 per session) and personalized drips based on your assessment and your goals.

Your plan can combine antioxidant support with facial treatments such as mesotherapy, Hollywood peeling or Kobido massage, always with realistic timelines and no promises of a fixed result. We see patients in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Russian, at Avenida Diagonal 384, Barcelona, and the two-week review is included.

Frequently asked questions

Does intravenous glutathione lighten the skin?

The available scientific evidence is limited and does not allow a depigmenting effect to be promised. At Santé we approach it as antioxidant support within a supervised protocol; if you want to treat dark spots, your doctor will assess specific options such as the Q-Switched laser.

How many sessions do I need before my wedding?

It depends on your starting point and your calendar; it is defined at the initial medical assessment. As a reference, IV wellness protocols are usually organized in cycles of several spaced sessions, and the response is reviewed at two weeks.

Can I combine the drip with facial treatments?

Yes, it is the usual approach: the internal approach (IV antioxidants) and the external one (mesotherapy, peelings, Kobido) complement each other. Your doctor orders the sequence so that each treatment arrives at the right moment.

Does it have side effects?

IV drip therapy is administered by medical staff after a prior assessment, which reduces risks. The most common effect is mild discomfort at the puncture site; any contraindication is ruled out at the initial consultation.

How much does it cost?

The Premium Drip costs €250 per session and the personalized drip varies according to its composition. The aesthetic consultation is free and the two-week follow-up review is included.
