Frequently Asked Questions
Why do dark spots appear on the face (melasma)?
Melasma is a hyperpigmentation caused by excessive melanin production in the epidermis and dermis. Main triggers include chronic sun exposure, hormonal changes (contraceptives, pregnancy), genetic predisposition, and higher skin phototypes. UV radiation stimulates melanocytes to produce more pigment, creating those characteristic symmetric patches on cheeks, forehead, and upper lip.
What treatments does Santé use to eliminate melasma?
At Santé, we combine a comprehensive protocol: fractional rejuvenation laser to stimulate cell renewal and reduce pigment, medical depigmentants prescribed after personalized dermatological assessment, and Hollywood peeling to exfoliate the superficial pigmented layer. This combination works at different skin levels, maximizing results and minimizing recurrence.
How many sessions do I need and when will I see results?
The typical protocol requires 4–6 sessions spaced every 2–3 weeks. First visible changes appear after 2–3 sessions, with progressive pigment lightening. Optimal results consolidate 4–6 weeks after treatment completion. Daily sun protection adherence is crucial for maintaining results and preventing recurrence.
Does the treatment hurt and how much recovery time do I need?
The laser produces controllable heat sensation; peeling may cause mild stinging. No significant downtime: skin may be slightly red for 24–48 hours. Some patients experience mild flaking. Avoid direct sun for 2 weeks post-treatment. No age restriction for adults; consult if using topical photosensitizing agents.
