Description

Medical treatment for excessive sweating through the application of botulinum toxin type A in specific areas (underarms, palms, soles, forehead). The toxin temporarily blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates sweat glands, significantly reducing sweat production in the treated area. The procedure is minimally invasive, consisting of multiple superficial microinjections distributed throughout the affected area. Results are notable after 2-7 days and can last between 6-12 months, providing a substantial improvement in the quality of life for those who suffer from excessive sweating.

1Before Treatment

  • Do not shave or wax the area to be treated 24-48 hours before (especially underarms) to avoid irritation that could interfere with the treatment.
  • Avoid using antiperspirants or deodorants with aluminum 48 hours before (in case of treating underarms).
  • Discontinue anticoagulants, anti-inflammatories, and supplements that may increase bleeding (omega 3, ginkgo biloba) 5-7 days before, always consulting with your doctor if they are prescribed.
  • Do not consume alcohol 24-48 hours before to avoid increased risk of bruising.
  • Inform your doctor about any medication you are taking, especially aminoglycoside antibiotics, muscle relaxants, or anticholinergics.
  • If palms or soles are to be treated, avoid activities that require manual precision or standing for prolonged periods during the 24-48 hours after.
  • Come with the area clean, without creams or lotions.
  • In case of underarm treatment, wear loose clothing with short or no sleeves to facilitate access.
  • If the Minor test (iodine-starch test) is used to define hyperhidrotic areas, do not apply deodorants or creams to the area 24 hours before.

2After Treatment

  • Do not massage or press the treated area for 24-48 hours to prevent the product from diffusing to unwanted areas.
  • Avoid intense physical activity, saunas, steam baths, or situations that cause excessive sweating for 24-48 hours.
  • Do not use deodorants or antiperspirants with irritating ingredients for 24-48 hours in case of underarm treatment.
  • Small bruises may appear that will disappear in 3-7 days.
  • Keep the area clean, using mild soaps without strong fragrances.
  • The full effect develops gradually over 2-7 days; maximum efficacy is usually reached at 14 days.
  • Schedule a follow-up at 2 weeks to evaluate results and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Keep a record of how long the effect lasts to plan future sessions.
  • In case of palm treatment, avoid activities that require a firm grip for 24-48 hours.
  • If you experience temporary muscle weakness in the area (uncommon), inform your doctor.
  • Maintain good general hydration by drinking enough water.
